Dots & Boxes: how to play

Draw lines between dots. Close a box to claim it and go again.

Players take turns drawing one line between two neighbouring dots. If your line closes the fourth side of a box, you claim it (it fills with your colour) and draw again.

When every line is drawn, the player with the most boxes wins. 2 to 4 players; boards from 3×3 to 6×6 boxes.

Tips: don’t draw the third side of a box, that hands it to the next player. Late in the game boxes link into chains: try to make your opponent open the first one.

Practice game

Play a practice game right here, against bots where the game has them (or play every seat yourself). Nothing is saved.
